My Background:

I am originally from Texas where I taught 3rd grade for several years prior to beginning my International Education career.  My husband, Beau Cain (the fantastic librarian at Huasteca) and I began teaching internationally in Medellin, Colombia, where I taught 4th grade for two years.  We moved here to the beautiful city of Monterrey, Mexico,
nine years ago.  In my time here, I have taught second and third grade for a total of five years, plus I spent two years at home raising my two beautiful children.  I am now enjoying my third year as the school counselor for grades 3 through 5 .

My Counseling Philosophy:

Our counseling program is an integral part of the entire school program in which the teachers, administrators, and parents work as a team to meet the needs of the whole student.  It is my role as counselor to support each student's academic, socio-emotional, and personal growth throughout the school year.  I have a chance to work with all of the 3rd through 5th grade students through my  comprehensive and developmental guidance program.  I visit classes regularly throughout the year teaching lessons that will give the students the skills and the language to help further their social and emotional growth.  One of the best aspects of my role is working with students individually and in small groups as the opportunity or need arises.  I honestly believe that I have one of the best jobs in the school as I have the opportunity to work with so many students in many different ways touching on topics that really make a difference in their social and emotional lives.

Guidance Classes for 3rd-5th grade:

3rd grade:  Bullying Prevention Skills and Friendship Skills
4th grade:  Conflict Resolution
5th grade:  Practicing Tolerance and Appreciating Diversity

Options for student referrals:

Teachers and parents: Teachers and parents, if you have a concern and would like to talk to me about a child, please feel free to make an appointment for a visit, call me, or email me at my school email address.  My phone number is 5000-4455.

Students self-referrals: Students, if
there is something going on at school or at home and you'd like to talk about it, please drop me a note in the counseling mailbox outside my office, or just pop by for a visit in recess or lunch.  I'm here to help whenever I can.

I look forward to hearing from you and serving you in any way that I can.

Here's to a
fun and growth-filled year!
